Should I learn Mandarin or Cantonese?
- Chinese refers to the language family, while Mandarin and Cantonese are dialects. The most widely spoken Chinese dialect is Mandarin (with about 850 million speakers), followed by Wu (90 million speakers), Min (70 million speakers) and Cantonese (70 million speakers).
- Mandarin is the most popular Chinese dialect and is the official language in China, and Taiwan. It is also widely spoken in Southeast Asia, especially in Malaysia and Singapore. Mandarin is one of the six official languages in the United Nations.
- Cantonese is spoken in Southern China and Hong Kong.
Is Chinese difficult to learn?
- Learning Chinese as a foreign language can be easier than learning English. Chinese has no irregular verbs or noun plurals to be learned. Words only have a single form, with no suffixes for number, tense or case. Chinese is a tonal language with different pitch patterns, which do not just add emotional colour as in English. With the right learning methodology, as well as your commitment and interest, learning Chinese is just as easy as learning any other language.
Should I learn Simplified or Traditional Chinese?
- We teach both, but it is highly recommended that foreigners learn simplified Chinese since it is easier and is widely used in China and other countries.
Can I speak Chinese in 3 months?
- You should be able to speak and write some Chinese with your commitment and interest in learning the language. Most students are able to speak basic Chinese after taking classes for one month.
Do you teach Chinese in English?
- Yes, you need to understand basic English to learn Chinese. This will be the most ideal methodology to teach and learn Chinese. However, you do not need to speak and write fluent English to learn Chinese. Materials can be translated to Polish. Our Polish students tell us that they can learn English at the same time as learning Chinese
I will visit China in a few weeks time, is it too late to learn Chinese now?
- It is not too late; private lessons can be conducted. We shall assess your needs and provide the best study plan to fit your requirements. We offer “Chinese for Travellers” or “Chinese for Business” lessons which will teach you approximately 100-150 words of spoken Mandarin. These lessons use our accelerated learning technique and are very effective.

Should I learn Chinese with self-study materials or computer-based systems?
- Research shows that it is harder to learn Chinese by yourself, but if the learning centre is far from where you live, you have no choice but to pursue self-study.
